From the first letter to RockyVega.com.
In 2019, on a stage in São Paulo, I showed a process that grew a group in the United States from 28 million dollars to 180 million. This is the story behind it.

The American map
Where the direct-response discipline was born and proved itself for decades.

The Brazilian map
Where it is being translated — list by list, campaign by campaign.
The great letters that built the method.
-
1979
The letter that founded it all
Bill Bonner writes the International Living letter: an American retiree pruning lemons and fig trees, with breakfast in bed. The most famous fictional lead in American marketing history — and a sales-letter structure that has worked for decades.

1993
Plague of the Black Debt
James Dale Davidson sounds the alarm: the debt that spreads like a plague. One of the most remembered preparation letters of the decade — and an example of a strong thesis, defended for years.

2000
The New Railroad Across America
The new railroad: the internet, explained as a generational opportunity. Millions of subscribers learned to see the change before the crowd.

2007
End of America
The preparation manual for the crisis: what to do, what to keep, who to trust. Months later, the world needed it.

2012
Agora's Big Black Book
The privileged secrets of editorial, copy, marketing, and management of a publishing group, in one compendium: four books, 225 articles. The manual that became an internal reference — and, years later, a bilingual website.

2013 – 2014
Brazil enters the map
In 2013 I met Empiricus in São Paulo. The independent research house founded by Caio Mesquita and Rodolfo Amstalden had 1,600 readers. Today it has two million. The letter “O Fim do Brasil?” became a symbol of the period — and the team grew from 9 people to more than 200.

Growth
What the process produced
In the United States, the group grew from 28 million to 180 million dollars. In Brazil, the list jumped from 1,600 to two million readers. It is not luck: it is structure.

How?
A copy team
The process has three pieces. A. The Big Idea — the core idea in two sentences; 80% of the creative energy. B. Copyboarding — the subheads that break each objection in the order the reader thinks them, like Hollywood storyboards. C. The A.P.B. formula — Assertion, Proof, Benefit, in every paragraph. Developed with Joe Schriefer, who used it to grow from zero to 26 copywriters.

600
The lesson from Hollywood
Film directors tell stories in hundreds of scenes, organized before filming. The same discipline organizes a letter: the series of small sales, in the order in which the reader's heart decides.

“We want to be generous with our ideas: to prove they work, and to help direct marketing grow in Brazil.”
